Industrial Embroidery & Garment Print Technician

Location: In person at Ruddy Duck Printshop, Middletons Yard, S81 2FT

Hours: 16 hours per week –

flexible across 2 to 5 days (Monday to Friday)

Overtime and additional shift available to meet business needs

Pay: Meets National Living Wage, depending on experience

Start Date: ASAP

Contract Type: Permanent (subject to successful probationary period)

Probationary Period: 3 months (may be extended if necessary)

We’re looking for a hands-on, detail-loving, garment-printing pro to join our growing team at Ruddy Duck Printshop! From embroidered logos to printed hoodies, dancewear and club merch, we create high-quality custom clothing and products for dance schools, clubs, businesses and beyond. If you’ve got the technical skills, creative flair, and a proactive attitude, we’d love to hear from you.

What you’ll be doing:

  • Operating a 15-needle industrial embroidery machine to a high standard
  • Setting up and editing designs using embroidery software (Wilcom experience a bonus!)
  • Framing and hooping garments accurately and efficiently
  • Troubleshooting embroidery issues like thread breaks, misalignment and tension problems
  • Using both manual and pneumatic heat presses to apply vinyl and heat transfers
  • Using a sublimation printer (Sawgrass and associated software experience a plus)
  • Using a mug and bottle heat press (Adkins experience preferred but not essential)
  • Operating a vinyl cutting machine and design software (Roland CutStudio)
  • Supporting garment prep, finishing, quality checking and packaging
  • Keeping the workspace tidy, organised and production-ready
  • Collaborating with a small, friendly team to keep orders flowing smoothly

Requirements (Essential):

  • At least 1 year of experience in a similar garment decoration/print production role
  • Experience with industrial embroidery machines (Barudan a bonus)
  • Highly organised and efficient
  • Excellent attention to detail – quality control is key!
  • Good communication skills
  • Standing for long periods and lifting up to 20kg
  • Two references – one must be from your most recent employer

 Preferred but not essential:

  • Experience with Wilcom embroidery software
  • Familiarity with Barudan embroidery machines, Roland vinyl cutters and CutStudio software
  • Knowledge of sublimation printing with Sawgrass printers
  • Experience using Adkins mug/bottle heat presses
  • Driving licence and access to a vehicle

Printshop Assistant

Ruddy Duck Printshop was established in 2022, and due to continued growth, we are looking for someone to join our team and hit the printshop floor running.

About the Role
We are initially offering a part-time position starting at 10 hours per week, with the scope for overtime. As business needs grow, there will be opportunities for additional hours. We are looking for a team player who is flexible, assertive, and motivated.

Key Responsibilities

  • Client Communication:
  • Be the first point of contact for all enquiries from existing and prospective clients via social media, email, phone, and in person.
  • Prepare quotes, invoices, and product information.
  • Develop relationships with clients, providing a can-do attitude.
  • Ensure an excellent customer journey throughout the entire process.
  • Order Management:
  • Check all incoming orders from clients and plan the workflow for the day/week.
  • Manage orders online via a database.
  • Provide excellent organisational skills.
  • Dispatch:
  • Check all items for quality control, paying particular attention to details.
  • Print postal labels and pack orders ready to post or for client collection.
  • Stock Management:
  • Place clothing and stock orders with regular suppliers.
  • Check incoming clothing and stock orders to ensure accuracy.
  • Manage consumable stock levels.
  • Cleaning:
  • General light cleaning of the shop and equipment.
  • Other Areas of the Business (depending on your experience, interests, and business needs):
  • Social Media
  • Logo/clothing design
  • Updating and managing the website
  • Printing and embroidery
  • Sales and marketing

The successful candidate will have:

  • 1 year of experience in a similar role – Preferred
  • Highly organised – Essential
  • Great communication skills – Essential
  • Excellent attention to detail – Essential
  • Driving licence and access to a vehicle – Preferred
  • Two references – One must be from your most recent employer

Some aspects of this role are physically demanding. You may be standing for long periods and must be able to lift boxes weighing up to 20 kg.

Expected hours: 10 per week – can be flexible across 4 or 5 days a week.
Pay: Depending on experience – meets National Living Wage requirements.

Training: Fully supported induction. Ongoing training opportunities across the business.
